"On Point"
MINSK, 8 December (BelTA) - The second session of the 7th Belarusian People’s Congress can rightfully be called historic, given the range of issues the delegates are set to consider, Irina Dovgalo, a member of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
She noted that the head of state is paying great attention to preparations for the upcoming Congress session. A substantial number of organizational matters must be resolved. “This is an enormous level of responsibility. The session will cover a wide range of issues,” Irina Dovgalo said. “As Chairman of the Belarusian People’s Congress, the head of state will naturally devote significant attention to the preparations.”
Irina Dovgalo expressed confidence that the upcoming session will be truly historic, as indicated by the issues submitted for discussion. One of them is the approval of the socio-economic development program for the next five years. “In fact, we are already implementing the decisions of the first session of the seventh Belarusian People’s Congress. At that first session, we approved the National Security Concept. It formed the basis of the five-year social and economic development program. In addition, the National Sustainable Development Strategy until 2040 also served as a foundation,” she emphasized.
Irina Dovgalo added that the agenda of the upcoming session will include other issues that the Congress has not previously considered. This is because such matters did not fall within the Congress’ competence before. “Naturally, each new session will mark a certain historical milestone, because we are working in an entirely new capacity following the amendments and additions to the Constitution, which granted the Congress a new status,” she concluded.
