Mishustin names Vasilevskaya’s spaceflight ‘a historic one’

MOSCOW, 15 April (BelTA) - Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin called the flight of the first cosmonaut of sovereign Belarus Marina Vasilevskaya into space a historic one as he met with Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko in Moscow on 15 April, BelTA has learned.

“I would like to heartily congratulate you on the historic event - the first spaceflight of Belarusian woman cosmonaut Marina Vasilevskaya. Our presidents held a meeting with the participants of the 21st expedition to the International Space Station earlier,” Mikhail Mishustin said.

He added that the first launch of the Angara-5 rocket from the Vostochny Cosmodrome took place the previous week. “Belarusian builders took an active part in the construction of this launch pad,” the Russian prime minister said.

“These achievements symbolize an unprecedented level of cooperation between Belarus and Russia in high technology, science, and along with manned flights we are actively engaged in space research, jointly implementing it in various sectors of the economy in the interests of citizens of our countries and in the interests of the Union State,” Mikhail Mishustin said.
