Investigative committees of Belarus, Russia sign cooperation program for 2022-2023

MINSK, 17 December (BelTA) – Chairman of Belarus' Investigative Committee Dmitry Gora met with Chairman of Russia's Investigative Committee Aleksandr Bastrykin in St Petersburg, representatives of the Investigative Committee told BelTA.

The two officials signed an updated program on cooperation in the area of forensic support and support for preliminary investigation for the 2022-2023 period. The document will allow improving cooperation between the agencies in law enforcement and pretrial proceedings in criminal cases. It will also enable systemic sharing of the best practices in matters concerning the introduction of new forensic science solutions that are of practical interest for Russian and Belarusian investigators and forensic scientists.

During the meeting Aleksandr Bastrykin stressed that relations between the investigative committees of Russia and Belarus are traditionally based on the spirit of good neighborhood, respect and mutual inclusion of interests. They encompass many spheres of cooperation in criminal justice processes, in the development of common approaches to the protection of public values, in personnel training, and in the scientific and educational sphere.

In turn, Dmitry Gora noted that Russian forensic scientists, who specialize in psychological methods of memory enhancement and in cognitive interviews, had already repeatedly helped the Belarusian side with investigative actions.

A shared interest in increasing the effectiveness of the work of law enforcement agencies in the fight against transboundary crimes and in other avenues of cooperation was expressed during the meeting.

Aleksandr Bastrykin presented Russia's Investigative Committee's medal For Assistance to Dmitry Gora. In turn, the chairman of Belarus' Investigative Committee thanked Aleksandr Bastrykin for the warm welcome and cooperation.

At the end of the meeting the sides noted that regular meetings of the heads of the committees help advance bilateral relations between law enforcement agencies, serve interests of development and enhancement of mutually beneficial relations for the sake of enabling conditions for a safe life of citizens of the Union State of Belarus and Russia.
