Gusakov: Institution of presidency has become part of Belarusian statehood, national security

MINSK, 18 July (BelTA) - The institution of presidency has become part of the Belarusian statehood and national security system, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov said at the roundtable “The role of the institution of presidency in strengthening Belarusian statehood and national security (timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the institute of presidency in the Republic of Belarus)” in the National Academy of Sciences, BelTA has learned.

According to Vladimir Gusakov, the 30th anniversary of the presidency in Belarus is a landmark event. Thirty years ago, on 10 July 1994, the Belarusian people made a momentous choice. On that day Aleksandr Lukashenko won a convincing victory in the second round of the presidential election, becoming the first president of independent Belarus.
“The institution of presidency has firmly entered the political system of our country, has become the most important part of the Belarusian statehood and national security. We can be proud of the achievements made in the last thirty years. They are obvious in everything. Let us recall that in 1994 the majority of our enterprises were struggling badly. Barter was used in mutual settlements between economic entities, and workers were sent on forced vacations. Mass unemployment became a reality, there were long, up to six months and more, delays in wages,” Vladimir Gusakov noted.

It is no coincidence that the priorities for the elected head of state were to ensure the coordinated joint work of all branches of government to lead the people away from the imminent economic and social abyss, Vladimir Gusakov said. Thanks to various programs and initiatives in healthcare, education system, agriculture, industry and other sectors, Belarus has turned into a powerful and confidently developing state.
