MINSK, 20 November (BelTA) - Russia will continue to seek international recognition and condemnation of the genocide of the Soviet people; the crimes of the Nazis have no statute of limitations, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in a video address to the international research & practical forum “No Statute of Limitations. Nuremberg. 80 Years”.

"We continue to seek an adequate international legal assessment of the crimes committed by the German-fascist invaders and their accomplices against citizens of the Soviet Union during the Great Patriotic War. These crimes were classified as 'genocide of the peoples of the USSR' in a statement by the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter at a solemn meeting of the United Nations General Assembly on 7 May 2025 honoring the victims of the Second World War," the Russian top diplomat said.

Sergey Lavrov emphasized that historians play a special role in preserving historical memory and accurate, undistorted information about the tragic events of the past. “We expect that further study of archival documents and materials will introduce new evidence of the atrocities by the Nazis and their collaborationist accomplices into scholarly discourse. These crimes have no statute of limitations. It is our moral duty to prevent the past from being forgotten and to vigorously counter the spread of destructive ideas and practices of xenophobia, Russophobia, racism, and neo-Nazism,” he stated.

The international research & practical forum “No Statute of Limitations. Nuremberg. 80 Years” is timed to coincide with the anniversary of the beginning of the International Military Tribunal against the major Nazi war criminals. During the forum, experts are expected to explore the contemporary challenges and threats to the preservation of the historical truth and memory of the events of the Great Patriotic War and the Second World War in the context of the Nuremberg Trials. In the year of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory and the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland, the forum aims to be a logical continuation of the large-scale work to preserve the historical memory of the genocide of the Soviet people by the Nazis and their accomplices during the Great Patriotic War.
