Firewood from wood chopping challenge delivered to lonely elderly residents of Minsk District

A wood-burning fireplace is a staple in many village homes. It creates warmth and ambiance. To get through winter you need a considerable amount of firewood. Two residents of Minsk Oblast had this problem solved as the Borovliany special forestry enterprise delivered them two trailers of top-notch firewood chopped at the wood chopping challenge.

The first MAZ, loaded with valuable fuel, made a stop in the village of Shepeli of the Yuzufovsky village council. 70-year-old Tamara Artimovich lives here in a small old house that she inherited from her parents.
It is extremely difficult for the woman to run a household. She has a second disability group. "I was born and lived in this house all my life. I worked as a railway conductor, traveled a lot to different places.

And now I struggle to do many things on my own, primarily because of problems with my legs. My relatives try to help, but they are busy with their own lives, and they live in the city," said Tamara Vyacheslavovna.

And yet she does all the main household chores like cleaning, cooking and burning firewood herself. "During the winter, a lot of firewood is used up - at least ten cubic meters. And I prefer chopped firewood, because I do not want to look for someone to help me chop it later. But this firewood is more expensive," the villager noted.

On chilly autumn days, the stove in her house is stoked once a day, and in frosty weather this has to be done in the morning and in the evening. "For a pensioner like me, assistance with firewood means a lot, as it can help me save more to buy medicines. Thank you very much for such care, for not leaving the elderly behind," the woman emphasized.

Another delivery address is a house on Novaya Street. The house belongs to Regina Burlo. “Regina will soon turn 85. I have asked her many times to move to live with me in the town. She does not want to. I myself is 83 years old, but I cannot leave her alone here. We manage household chores here together,” Klavdia, Regina’s sister, said

Despite their age, the women are true homemakers. The vegetable garden near the house looks neat and tidy. There are flowerbeds in front of the house.

“It is difficult for women to cut firewood. We order ready-made. Years ago, however, my sister and I chopped wood ourselves. We did not ask for help. Today it is an impossible thing for us,” Klavdia said.

Regina is not very talkative. Nevertheless, we still managed to find out some things about her life.

"I am a local. I worked in a collective farm and dedicated many years to animal husbandry. My late husband worked in the local forestry," she said.

Having accepted the valuable cargo, that occupied a hefty part of the yard, the villagers immediately began to assess it. "Good firewood, dry. It is clear that it comes from the president. We saw him chopping with journalists on TV. Thank you very much!" Klavdia Petrovna said.

A total of about 20m3 of firewood was logged at the third wood chopping challenge. "On the instructions of the head of state, firewood was sent to low-income and lonely elderly residents of Minsk District, so that they could keep their houses warm in winter. The quality of the wood is high. The logs are dry and large, they will burn well releasing a lot of heat," director of the Borovliany special forestry enterprise Aleksandr Mironovich said.
