EP's draft resolution on Belarus' election dismissed as biased and absurd

MINSK, 22 January (BelTA) – The draft resolution of the European Parliament on the election in Belarus is another biased and absurd move, member of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Aleksandr Shpakovsky told BelTA.

A reminder, in this resolution members of the European Parliament intend to call on the EU countries not to recognize the outcomes of the presidential election in Belarus

“This is another biased decision of the European Parliament. This decision can be explained by the dependent nature of this entity. The West's restrictions on Belarus have to do with geopolitics. In other words, it is not only about the internal situation in our country, but also about the confrontation that is currently unfolding between the Western world led by the United States on the one hand and China and Russia on the other. They shoot at Belarus, but aim further. This international confrontation determines the attitude of the European Parliament towards Belarus, a country that is pursuing a sovereign policy and is on the side of Moscow and Beijing in their efforts to build a fair multipolar world,” said Aleksandr Shpakovsky.

The deputy is sure that such decisions should not be taken seriously: “We find them absurd. After all, frankly speaking, the European Parliament does not have any real impact on anything.”

The 10-page draft resolution calls not to recognize the election that has not even taken place yet. The document puts forward a number of absurd and far-fetched claims. For example, it accuses Belarus of kidnapping children from Donbass and other areas affected by military actions.

“Ukraine's military expenditure increased by 1,270% between 2014 and 2023. It amounts to $64 billion or more. This is not Ukrainian money. This is the money the collective West gave the Kiev regime to wage war against Russia. In other words, certain groups in the West associated with the defense industry did everything they could to ensure that this war expanded and international tensions increased,” explained Aleksandr Shpakovsky.

At the same time, Belarus pursued a completely different policy, the MP remarked. “In particular, it extended  a helping hand to children from war-affected regions. Therefore, these accusations again look absurd and far-fetched. I would like to say that, in principle, we do not accept any declarations of the European Parliament and other EU structures and act exclusively in line with national interests and our commitment to world peace,” the deputy concluded.
