MINSK, 29 December (BelTA) - As part of the Our Children campaign, Chairman of the House of Representatives Igor Sergeyenko visited the National Research and Treatment Center of Traumatology and Orthopedics in Minsk, BelTA has learned.
The speaker of the House of Representatives noted that it is a bit sad for the children to be in the hospital during the holiday season. “But the center has comfortable conditions and today there is also a fairy-tale atmosphere, gifts, Grandfather Frost, and, most importantly, the care of highly professional doctors, nurses, and orderlies. Today, I did not see any sad faces among the children. Even among those who could not leave their wards to see a concert. But they all believe not just in miracles, but in the people who surround them, who treat them. And it's great that there are such specialists who perform miracles not only on New Year's Eve but every day,” Igor Sergeyenko said.
He spoke about the quality of care provided by the specialists of the National Research and Treatment Center of Traumatology and Orthopedics. “We came to the center to thank the staff for the work they carry out in the interests of our country. In the run-up to the New Year, a group of specialists was awarded the Union State Prize for the achievements in science. We also came to congratulate the children undergoing treatment. Today, Grandfather Frost entertained us, but the real magicians are the ones working here. These are the leading specialists, doctors, nurses, 27 scientific researchers, and a corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences,” he said.
The next topic Igor Sergeyenko addressed was the issue of joint replacement. Two years ago, there were complaints about long waiting lists in this field. Over the past year and a half, thanks to the center and the methodological work of its staff in the regions, the problem of waiting lists has been virtually resolved. He also highlighted the high demand for the center's services. “This year alone, patients from 46 countries have sought highly qualified surgical interventions here,” he emphasized.
Director of the National Research and Treatment Center of Traumatology and Orthopedics Mikhail Gerasimenko spoke to journalists about the center's activities. “Our center is the leading institution in Belarus for traumatology, orthopedics, and spinal surgery. We perform the full spectrum of orthopedic and traumatological interventions. Our flagship areas are spinal surgery, pediatric traumatology and orthopedics, major joint replacement, and minimally invasive arthroscopic procedures, which are also performed on major joints. It is a very good tradition to host high-ranking officials during the holiday season. This is very important and pleasant for children, they need care and kind words,” Mikhail Gerasimenko said.
The National Research and Treatment Center of Traumatology and Orthopedics is actively engaged in scientific work. “Today, we have prepared a small exhibition showcasing our achievements in recent years. Our developments are not only knowledge-intensive but also practice-oriented, with a very high degree of import substitution. In 2023, this rate stood at 20% in traumatology; in 2024, it reached 43%; and in 2025, it is 69%. Thus, our scientific developments save the country millions of dollars. From 2017 to 2020, our center collaborated with Russian colleagues under the Union State program to develop new spinal systems. We have developed new methodologies and algorithms for diagnosing and treating children with severe congenital anomalies and spinal injuries. Based on these methodologies, using the metal implants designed by our center and produced by the Medbiotech domestic company we have performed surgeries on 64 children,” Mikhail Gerasimenko said.
Igor Sergeyenko toured the operating rooms, presented awards to the team and individual staff members, and also congratulated the children on the upcoming New Year, wishing them a speedy recovery, good grades, and creative success.
Patient Yegor Bril noted that the attention during the New Year holidays is very heartwarming. “While being in the hospital, I wish for good health for myself, for my surgery to go successfully, and for my loved ones to also be in good health. I was very happy to receive gifts and to attend such a celebration,” the young man said.
