Cultural bridge between Belarus and Uzbekistan; Minsk hosts literary soiree marking Navoi's 585th anniversary 

MINSK, 11 February (BelTA) - Culture plays a significant role in bilateral cooperation between Uzbekistan and Belarus, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Belarus Rakhmatulla Nazarov said during a Belarusian-Uzbek literary soiree dedicated to the 585th anniversary of the birth of the great Uzbek poet and thinker, statesman Alisher Navoi in Minsk on 10 February, BelTA has learned.

“We highly value the cultural exchange between our countries. Bilateral relations have reached a new level, and we are proud that culture plays a significant role in this process. Joint events serve not only to strengthen diplomatic ties but also create a space for creative dialogue,” the head of the Uzbek diplomatic mission noted.

“Our event is dedicated to Uzbek poetry and symbolizes the cultural unity of our peoples. Uzbek poetry, starting with classics such as Alisher Navoi, is an important part of our national identity, reflecting the rich history and spiritual heritage of Uzbekistan,” the diplomat emphasized.

“Poetry in Uzbekistan plays an important role in shaping national self-awareness and preserving spiritual traditions,” Ambassador Rakhmatulla Nazarov continued. “This soiree is a wonderful opportunity to acquaint ourselves with the rich heritage of Uzbek national identity.”

“The art of poetry, like literature itself, knows no borders and promotes friendship and cooperation between our peoples. I am confident that today's event will leave a mark on the cultural life of Belarus,” the diplomat said.

He also continued: “Culture is an important bridge between our countries, and thanks to this, bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and Belarus, including in the humanitarian domain, continue to strengthen. We see how art and literature promote mutual understanding and friendship between peoples. I hope that such events will become a tradition, uniting us through creativity and the beauty of poetic words.”

For her part, Yelena Stelmakh, First Deputy Chairperson of the Union of Writers of Belarus, Deputy Chairperson of the Belarus-Uzbekistan Society, highlighted the close cooperation with the Union of Writers of Uzbekistan. This includes, for example, the Days of Uzbek Literature held in Belarus two years ago, which saw a large creative delegation arrive from Tashkent, an event at the House of Writers, and a trip to landmark sites across Belarus. These events laid the foundation for new literary works.

the Uzbek journal “Star of the East” published the pieces by the Belarusian poets and writers. These, included, among others, an essay by Yelena Stelmakh about her trip to Tashkent, sharing her impressions of the country's culture and history.

By the way, Deputy Chairperson of the Union of Writers of Uzbekistan Risolat Khaidarova sent her greetings to the event at the House of Friendship.

The meeting was attended by representatives of foreign diplomatic missions, teachers and students from universities and colleges in Minsk and also Yanka Kupala's great-granddaughter Vasilina Mitskevich, the chief custodian of the Yanka Kupala State Literary Memorial Museum. Uzbekistan holds a special place in Yanka Kupala's body of work.
The evening featured recitals of Navoi's poetry, including in Belarusian and Uzbek and other lyrical works.
