MINSK, 17 December (BelTA) – The Belarusian air carrier Belavia presented a regular flight Minsk - Urumqi - Minsk in China, BelTA learned from the airline's press service.
The meeting in Urumqi brought together more than 70 travel agencies of the People's Republic of China, the leadership of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Urumqi International Airport and the Belarusian Embassy in China.
The speakers noted that the new flight came at the right time. Urumqi is rapidly developing major international transportation hub, and direct air service is beneficial for both sides: it is an impetus to trade, cultural exchange, and transfer opportunities for passengers.
The new flight is popular: the first flight seat occupancy exceeded 75%. The business community also appreciated the new opportunity: the first flight from Urumqi to Minsk delivered cargo of over 3 tonnes, mainly parts for Chinese-made cars.
Urumqi is the only city in China where the Belarusian airline flies to, but it plans to expand its flight map. “Next year we are planning to open flights to other cities in China,” Belavia Director General Igor Cherginets said. “Urumqi will forever remain in our heart as the first point in China. We are very grateful for the assistance provided by our colleagues from China in the preparation process.”
For passengers from Belarus, Urumqi is attractive not only as a final destination, but also as a transit point. Urumqi operates flights from to 22 cities and 17 countries.
