Belarusian customs chief comments on role of customs amid sanctions

MINSK, 31 August (BelTA) - Chairman of the State Customs Committee Vladimir Orlovsky spoke about how the customs authorities help enterprises amid the sanctions pressure on the country as he talked to reporters after the meeting with head of state Aleksandr Lukashenko, BelTA has learned.

"What depends on us is the speed of clearance and decision-making. We are introducing such mechanisms to zero waiting times for business entities,” Vladimir Orlovsky said.

According to him, this year's main project is the launch of the center of electronic declaration. A business entity submits the declaration via the internet into the customs system and this declaration is cleared not where the goods are located but by any available inspector. “Thus, we ensure almost zero waiting time,” Vladimir Orlovsky explained.

The clearance process has also been accelerated recently. “85% of our exports are cleared within five minutes. Half of imports is cleared within an hour. It used to be hours and days. Moreover, software helps us process some 32% of all the declarations automatically. Thus we have reduced the period of delivery of raw materials, equipment and components and also reduced the time to export the finished goods. Every hour means money,” said Vladimir Orlovsky.

As BelTA reported earlier, during the meeting with Chairman of the State Customs Committee Vladimir Orlovsky on 31 August Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko also touched on sanctions. “Of course, the role of the Customs Committee in this situation is huge. How do we help our enterprises? You understand very well that the pressure on the border coupled with the sanctions will be too much for our companies,” said the head of state. According to him, the Belarusian companies should be supported.
