Belarus’ trade unions plant over 6.8m trees during reforestation campaign

MINSK, 26 April (BelTA) - Trade union activists planted more than 6.8 million trees during Belarus’ forest restoration campaign Bringing Forests Back to Life, the press service of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus told BelTA.

From the very beginning of the campaign, trade unions actively joined the efforts to restore forests. Representatives of primary trade union organizations, regional and national sectoral unions, regional associations and the national trade union center worked across all regions of the country. The forestry enterprises helped to identify areas needing volunteer assistance. Special attention was given to regions most affected by last year’s July storms.

"Trade unions participate in such events every year. This time, understanding the need for extensive forest recovery after July storms, we called on all our organizations to engage in the campaign. This effort paid off. Practically every weekend, volunteers from trade unions enthusiastically worked in various districts. People often brought along their families. Everyone aimed to achieve the best results together to fulfill the task," the press service noted. "It is worth noting that representatives of forestry enterprises did tremendous work clearing and preparing areas for planting, providing volunteers with everything needed. Thanks to these efforts and a strong drive to succeed, trade union representatives helped restore forests covering over 2,000 hectares."
