Belarus, Russia hold consultations on Union State draft security concept

MINSK, 30 May (BelTA) – Minsk hosted consultations between the offices of the Security Council of Belarus and the Security Council of Russia on 30 May. The parties reviewed a draft security concept of the Union State, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian delegation was headed by Deputy State Secretary of the Security Council Aleksandr Neverovsky; the Russian delegation was led by Deputy Secretary of the Security Council Sergei Vakhrukov.

The work on the Union State draft security concept is carried out by the offices of the Security Council of Belarus and the Security Council of Russia. A number of ministries and government agencies of the two countries are also involved in the work in accordance with Resolution No. 2 of the Union State Supreme State Council as of 6 April 2023.

The participants of the consultations examined the draft document taking into account proposals and remarks of the parties. The draft security concept updates the Union State security interests and specifies strategic goals and objectives for the near and medium term. The document is aimed at increasing the efficiency of joint work to protect the Union State. The document is a comprehensive response of the two countries to the changing situation in the region and the world.

Against the backdrop of the deteriorating military and political situation around Belarus and Russia, the parties emphasized the importance of coordinating efforts to improve the regulatory framework in this field.
