Belarus' Prosecutor General's Office accuses Warsaw judge of incitement to national hatred

MINSK, 1 February (BelTA) – The Prosecutor General's Office has opened a criminal case against Dariusz Lubowski, a judge of the Warsaw District Court, accusing him of incitement to national hatred and social hatred, BelTA learned from the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office of Belarus.

According to the source, the judge acted in his professional capacity in the court case, which requested the extradition of Stepan Putilo to Belarus. Stepan Putilo is accused of committing a number of grave crimes against public security, law and order. During the court hearing the judge Dariusz Lubowski publicly spread patently false information designed to incite national hatred and social hatred. The judge also insulted and slandered top Belarusian government officials.

The press service said: “Such actions of a civil servant, who speaks on behalf of the Polish state, testify to his obvious incompetence, to the ignoring of the basic principles of the effectuation of justice and international obligations. The actions confirm the biased and doctored nature of the court proceedings in the specific criminal case, their political nature. The announcement of the court ruling was definitely theatricalized.”

According to the Prosecutor General's Office of Belarus, the judge committed illegal actions together with other persons, the actions are covered by part 3, article 130 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus.

The criminal case has been sent to Belarus' Investigative Committee for a preliminary investigation.
