MINSK, 18 July (BelTA) - Belarus plans to join BRICS as a partner, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov said on the air of the ONT TV channel, BelTA has learned.
“We are currently cooperating very closely within this organization, taking part in all its segments: meetings at the level of education ministers and on economic issues. We took part in the BRICS Games. The president is going to attend the BRICS summit in Kazan in October. This will be full-format participation, including meetings on the bilateral track,” Maksim Ryzhenkov noted.
Now BRICS wants to finalize the term “partner” or “observer”. The Belarusian side expects that the organization will do it by the summit in Kazan.
“Following the negotiations with all BRICS member countries, there is a formalized agreement that Belarus will be among the first partners of this organization,” the minister said.
