Belarus' grain harvest reaches 2m tonnes

MINSK, 3 August (BelTA) – Belarus has harvested 2 million tonnes of grain so far, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

“As of early 3 August the grain harvest in the country reached 1,944,000 tonnes. The figure will be considerably higher by the end of the day,” the press service said.

Grain and leguminous crops (excluding maize, buckwheat and millet) have been cropped from 24.4% of the targeted area. Harvesting was completed on 45.4% of the area (157,000 hectares) in Brest Oblast, 7.81% (28,300 hectares) in Vitebsk Oblast, 37.9% (131,300 hectares) in Gomel Oblast, 20.2% (61,800 hectares) in Grodno Oblast, 20.5% (92,000 hectares) in Minsk Oblast, and 15.6% (51,800 hectares) in Mogilev Oblast.

Malt barley was harvested from 17,800 hectares of land (32.7% of the designated area), with 74,600 tonnes threshed (the average yield is at 41.8 centners per hectare). Winter rapeseed was gathered in from 214,700 hectares of land or 69.6% of the targeted area, with 530,000 tonnes threshed and the average yield at 24.7 centners per hectare. Flax was cleared from the area of 26,100 hectares (58.9%).

As part of the second cutting agricultural workers cut down grass on 746,600 hectares or 73.1% of the targeted area. Some 651,000 tonnes of hay (68.2% of the target), 11.406 million tonnes of haylage (84.9%), and 305,900 tonnes of silage (1.60%) were produced.
