Belarus' education minister: The main achievement in life is to make the right choice

MINSK, 30 December (BelTA) – Belarus' Education Minister Igor Karpenko visited the Krivichi special therapeutic vocational boarding school as part of the nationwide charity campaign Our Children on 30 December, BelTA has learned.

Such meetings of the minister with students of the vocational school have become traditional. “Every person faces the choice of his or her life path. I would like you to make the right choice in your life,” said Igor Karpenko addressing the students. “Yesterday I attended the New Year's Eve Ball at the Palace of Independence. Some 300 gifted and talented children from across the country took part in the event. Girls donned beautiful evening dresses and boys wore tuxedos and tailcoats. A live orchestra played. I would like our next meeting to take place in a similar setting. The fact that you are here today is a good reason to think about the path you are going to take in your life,” the minister said.

The minister wished the children to succeed as professionals. “I sincerely wish you to have your own business, which you would be ready to serve throughout your life, work for the benefit of your families and the country. May the families you create be strong and happy, and may your children avoid the situation you are in today. I would like you to become real citizens of the country so that we, the older generation, could be sure that we pass our independent state over to reliable hands,” he said.

Igor Karpenko presented the educational institution with a certificate for a multiboard for the educational process, as well as a gift for each student. The meeting was also attended by rector of the National Institute of Vocational Education Valery Golubovsky, Olympic canoe sprint champion, Chairman of the Belarusian Student Sport Association Aliaksandr Bahdanovich and Honored Artist of Belarus Irina Dorofeeva.

The Our Children charity project is running in Belarus from 10 December till 10 January. Every year, heads of ministries and other government agencies, local authorities, representatives of public associations visit children's care homes and family-type homes, foster families, families raising disabled children, correctional and rehabilitation facilities, hospitals.
