MINSK, 23 February (BelTA) – Belarus plans to reach a ratio of 100 robots for every 10,000 workers by 2030, Belarusian Industry Minister Andrei Kuznetsov told the First News TV Channel, BelTA has learned.

Andrei Kuznetsov noted that today the robotization level in the domestic industry is inadequate; therefore the goal has been set to achieve the necessary level of robotization by the end of the current five-year plan. “The goal is achievable. Today the ratio is 10-15 robots per 10,000 people,” he said.

It is important to define what exactly constitutes robotization, the minister added. “If we are talking about laser cutting of metal, it used to be done manually using dies, but now you just place a sheet and it’s done. Is this considered robotization? I think so. Therefore, we need to develop approaches to this process,” the minister emphasized.

Furthermore, according to him, it is necessary to identify the specific areas where robotization would be appropriate. “We are an exporting country, and we produce a wide range of products. A robot is more suitable for a single product than for a wide range. For a robot to be cost-effective, you can’t reconfigure it more than five times a year. But in some places where we’d like to put a robot, we’d need to change its setup almost twice a day. So human labor isn’t going anywhere. It will stay. We’ll just make the work easier,” noted Andrei Kuznetsov.
