Ambassador hails Belarus-China tour operators’ meeting as new cooperation platform

MINSK, 19 February (BelTA) - During the past two years the number of tourists traveling to Belarus and China has grown a lot, which attests to a rebound in the tourism market, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Belarus Zhang Wenchuan said as he spoke at the Belarus-China tourism cooperation meeting involving Chinese tourism industry representatives who are on a study tour in Belarus on 18-24 February, BelTA learned.

“This tourism promo presentation creates a new platform for exchange and cooperation between the travel industries of two countries and provides a great opportunity for further development of tourism between China and Belarus. We hope to work effectively alongside with Belarus across several avenues,” the diplomat believes.

The ambassador urged to step up efforts to promote tourism. “It is important to use media sources of both sides to hold more tourism promotional events, to show people rich tourism opportunities and unique cultural heritage of one another, therefore stimulating their interest in traveling”, the diplomat said.

In addition, Ambassador Zhang Wenchuan emphasized the importance of creating unique travel products. “Taking into account the tourism opportunities of both countries, more tourism routes and products should be created to meet the market demand and attract more visitors. It is essential to develop better tourist services and intensify the training of tourism professionals. At the same time, it is important to strengthen control of the tourism market, maintain order, and protect the legal rights and interests of travelers,” he noted.

He also highlighted: “China is a country rich in tourism opportunities, with 57 world heritage sites and 327 top-level national attractions. From the majestic Great Wall of China to the charming water towns of Jiangnan, from the solemn Forbidden City to the trendy Bund in Shanghai – every corner preserves the history of China’s five-thousand-year-old civilization.

Ambassador Zhang Wenchuan also highlighted that Belarus is called the “lungs of Europe”. It is also renowned for its cultural heritage sites, including Mir Castle, and the Brest Hero Fortress reflecting the country’s history.

The ambassador added: “The 3rd Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China emphasized that China will follow its fundamental state policy of opening up to the world and build a new system of open economy on a higher level. This provides a unique historical opportunity for further development of cooperation between China and Belarus in various fields, including tourism.”
“Let’s nurture this evergreen tree of tourism cooperation together, so that it may become a bridge of friendship between the peoples of China and Belarus and a golden key to our joint development,” the diplomat concluded.
