MINSK, 10 April (BelTA) – Parents should be an example for their kids but the principle “Look how great I am” does not work in this regard. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the relevant statement in an interview with the Interstate TV and Radio Company Mir, BelTA has learned.
The interview touched upon not only global political and social matters but also the role of the family in the society. It is commonly known that Aleksandr Lukashenko has previously stated many times that a full-fledged classic family with two children and more should be the lifestyle for Belarusians to embrace.
The president was asked about the role of the father and his relations with his sons. “I often talk about it: the father should be an example for his sons. But nothing like ‘Look how great I am, I am the president’. No. If you want your kid to go in for sports, [take him] by the hand and bring him with you. But you have to run yourself, too,” the head of state explained the formula of responsible fatherhood.
In his words, for parents it is important to notice natural abilities, talents of the child, and the kid’s interests in time and help develop them. “In other words, you need to understand what the child needs and you have to help the child master it. Or you should lead the child with your own example,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed. “You should be an example for your kids. Not only for boys but for girls as well.”
It is desirable for children to take interest in music, sport, and foreign languages because it helps a lot later in life, the head of state pointed out. He explained his reasoning using several examples concerning his family.
“My eldest son and my youngest son have finished musical schools. I saw their inclinations and instructed specialists to recheck them. They honestly said that the kids have these propensities. I took them to a musical school. It is very important for development,” the president said.
“Speaking a foreign language is a must,” Aleksandr Lukashenko continued. “Back in the day I spoke German very well. We had a very good teacher. My school knowledge was sufficient for graduating from university. I know that speaking a foreign language is very important. My three sons can speak a foreign language. A foreign language is a language of instruction for my youngest.”
And certainly the sons of the head of state followed the father’s example and went in for sports. “They see that I practice sports and I take them with me. They go for it. They play football, ice hockey, tennis. Some go in for all of that,” the president noted.
Aleksandr Lukashenko said that back in the day he went in for various kinds of sport and he knows many of them rather well. The sport interests of the head of state include, for example, skiing, biathlon, tennis, ice hockey, and certainly football. He was a very serious football player. “I truly love sport a lot,” the head of state stressed.
