Lukashenko sends Independence Day greetings to Lithuania

MINSK, 16 February (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has extended greetings to the people of Lithuania as the country celebrates the Day of the Restoration of the State of Lithuania, BelTA learned from the press service of the head of state.

“Belarus has always been interested in a peaceful prosperous Lithuania. We have been building economic and humanitarian ties together, trading, visiting each other, creating families. Lithuanian Klaipeda has traditionally been a sea gate for Belarusian exports,” the message of greetings reads. “A few years ago, no one could even imagine that Lithuanian politicians could so thoughtlessly ban us from visiting Lithuania, build barbed wire walls on the common border, point weapons at us and even tell us how to live in our own country.”

The head of state emphasized that the peace-loving Belarusian people responded to this by extending visa waiver for the residents of Lithuania, offering their goods, medical services, electricity, inviting to sanatoriums, theaters, museums.

“I am sure that the current situation in our relations does not correspond to the aspirations of ordinary Lithuanians,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The president of Belarus wished the citizens of neighboring Lithuania happiness and development based on the true values of goodness, honest work, family welfare and justice.
