Lukashenko: Europe doesn’t currently want confrontation with Belarus and Russia

MINSK, 20 April (BelTA) – Europe does not currently want a confrontation with Belarus and Russia, regardless of the rhetoric voiced by some European leaders, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said in an interview with RT TV channel, BelTA has learned.
The RT journalist asked Aleksandr Lukashenko whether Europeans want a war against Belarus and Russia: a question linked to the militant rhetoric of certain European leaders, such as German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

“No, this is impossible, and at least for now they do not want this. Time will tell us what will happen tomorrow, because the world is so turbulent, so unpredictable that it’s unclear and unknown what will happen tomorrow, let alone the day after,” the president said. “They do not want a confrontation with Belarus and Russia. Under no circumstances. I don’t believe it, no matter what rhetoric there may be.”

The Belarusian leader explained his position in part by noting that Europe’s relations with the United States are currently not very good, and a military conflict with Belarus and Russia could end badly for Europeans. In this context, the journalist asked whether he believes that a military bloc like NATO might soon come to an end.
“No. Even if Trump decides that NATO is finished, he will not have enough time to carry it out. Other people will come who will save NATO,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “Trump and his people understand that NATO is not only about warheads and American money. It is a colossal foothold for the United States together with its allies on the Eurasian continent.”
