Lukashenko identifies most difficult aspect of president’s work

MINSK, 3 July (BelTA) – The most important thing for the state is to preserve its independence. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement for reporters during the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from Nazi invaders, BelTA has learned.

Asked to identify the most complicated period of preserving the country’s independence in his 30-year-long presidential career, Aleksandr Lukashenko stated: “The most complicated period for a genuine president is the high trust of the nation. Every day, every morning, evening, and night you wake up in cold sweat and think you cannot fail this trust. It is the hardest part for a genuine president.’

The president stressed it is necessary to preserve independence in order to preserve the state. “A state cannot exist without independence. And if there is no state, then we don’t exist either. We are just slaves without it. This is why preserving it is the most important thing,” he said.

The head of state also explained why Belarus is busy building a union together with Russia. In his words, the question of what country Belarus should share the fate with has never arisen: “We and Russia share the same values, the same concepts, the same ideas. We don’t have such relationship with any other country. After all, we were part of one state for so long for a reason.”
