SMOLEVICHI DISTRICT, 6 August (BelTA) – Agriculture was one of the issues on the agenda of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko’s working trip to Smolevichi District of Minsk Oblast on 6 August. The head of state heard out the corresponding report from Minsk Oblast Governor Aleksandr Turchin, BelTA has learned.
Mass harvesting in the region is set to be completed within a week. The grain harvest, including rapeseed, is expected to make up 2.1 million tonnes. The region also expects to get about 600,000 tonnes of maize.
“As of today, the region harvested 80% of grain - 1.408 million tonnes, not including rapeseed. An estimated 315,000 tonnes of rapeseed was threshed as of this morning. In total we have 1.7 million tonnes. We will finish mass harvesting by the end of this week. Taking into account rapeseed, I think we will have 2.1 million tonnes. About 1.8 million tonnes of grain and 320,000 tonnes of rapeseed. Everything is fine with maize, too. I think we will get 600,000 tonnes of maize this year,” Aleksandr Turchin said.
In his words, the region is even ready to lend someone a helping hand in the matter of grain state procurement on payment terms. The region also fulfills the state procurement for malting barley. This, along with rapeseed, gives an excellent financial result for farms.
The head of state also asked about the construction and reconstruction of cattle-breeding complexes. This work in Minsk Oblast is expected to be completed within three years. “I hope it will take three years,” the head of state responded.
Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized that discipline is a must in everything, and there are still farms in Minsk Oblast which should be brought up to a certain level. “There are very good farms in Minsk Oblast, but, unfortunately, not all of them,” the president said.
They also briefly discussed recovery efforts following the storms in Minsk Oblast. Minsk Oblast suffered less than the southern regions. In general, order has already been restored there. Everything is done in a timely manner. Help has been promptly provided to people whose houses had damaged roofs.
