MINSK, 20 May (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko expressed his consent to take part in laying out youth alleys near the Palace of Independence during the meeting with activists of Belarus' pioneer organization on 20 May to mark the 100th anniversary of the pioneer movement, BelTA has learned.
“I am ready to take part in such an event. These should be Pioneer and Komsomol Alleys,” the president said, promising to find a suitable place for them.
According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, the best time to do it is in spring so that the trees take root better. “We can do it near the Palace of Independence. Or maybe we will find some place within the palace grounds and plant these trees,” the head of state said.
The president said that he regularly takes part in tree planting, including together with his sons. He has planted trees on the grounds of the Palace of Independence, too.
He emphasized the symbolism of planting trees. Time passes and they serve as a reminder for people who can later bring their children to them and show these trees. “This is the story of your life. Therefore, wherever you are, plant a tree, let it grow,” he said.
