Russian Foreign Ministry welcomes swift arrival of new Belarusian ambassador

MOSCOW, 30 January (BelTA) - Belarus and Russia maintain an unprecedented level of dialogue, which explains the swiftness with which the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to the appointment of the new Belarusian ambassador to Moscow, official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova said at a news briefing when taking a question from BelTA.

“Yuri Seliverstov, the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Russian Federation received his agrément on 26 January arrived in Moscow on 27 January. Moreover, upon landing, he immediately proceeded to the traditional meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and the ambassadors of CIS countries accredited in Russia. Immediately after this event, he presented copies of his credentials to the Deputy Foreign Minister of our country, Mikhail Galuzin, who oversees these matters,” Maria Zakharova said.

“This promptness is due to the unprecedented intensity of political dialogue between our fraternal countries, the scale of bilateral cooperation and the depth of integration processes within the Union State and also the density of foreign policy coordination, which requires the personal involvement of the head of the diplomatic mission,” Maria Zakharova said.

She expressed confidence that Yuri Seliverstov, given his extensive professional experience and competence, would be able to dive deep into the matters of Belarusian-Russian relations literally “from the get-go”. “Our main expectation from our new Belarusian colleague, if I may put it this way in response to your question, is, of course, maintaining continuity in the traditionally close, trusting, and genuinely comradely cooperation between the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Belarusian diplomatic mission in Moscow, for the further strengthening of friendship and cooperation between our fraternal countries and peoples,” Maria Zakharova noted.

“Taking this opportunity, we wish Yuri Seliverstov every success in his new responsible position and reaffirm our readiness for productive cooperation,” she added.
