MINSK, 29 January (BelTA) - Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov did not rule out that, if necessary, the new round of negotiations in Abu Dhabi could last more than one day, TASS reports.
“Maybe two days if necessary, yes,” Dmitry Peskov said when asked whether the talks could last longer than one day. He did not specify a start time for the next meeting.
Dmitry Peskov also emphasized that the modalities of the negotiations in Abu Dhabi will be coordinated right up until the day the talks resume. “The modalities will be coordinated directly until the day of the meeting, until Sunday [1 February]. Essentially, this changes nothing, but certainly, everyone will work to ensure the possibility that the dialogue continues,” the Russian leader's spokesman said.
Earlier, Dmitry Peskov confirmed that trilateral negotiations involving Russia, Ukraine, and the United States on the Ukrainian settlement will continue in Abu Dhabi, UAE on 1 February. He described the talks as sensitive and very complex. He added that the Russian side is not currently discussing lists of documents regarding the Ukrainian settlement and believes this should be done behind closed doors.
U.S. Secretary of State Mark Rubio stated that the new round of negotiations on resolving the conflict in Ukraine will be bilateral, but the United States may join the parties.
The trilateral security consultations involving representatives from Russia, the United States, and Ukraine took place in Abu Dhabi on 23-24 January. According to the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting took place in a constructive and positive atmosphere.
