MINSK, 5 September (BelTA) – Belarus hopes for a full restoration of cooperation with Slovakia in the near future, Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yevgeny Shestakov said at an official event marking the 81st anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising and the Day of the Constitution of Slovakia, BelTA has learned.
The deputy minister emphasized: “I am pleased to speak at this event, which is important for Belarusian-Slovak relations, the first official protocol reception held by the Embassy of Slovakia in Minsk in recent years. We largely associate the resumption of the diplomatic mission's active work with the figure of respected Ambassador, distinguished Slovak politician, scholar, and statesman Jozef Migáš. He has returned to Minsk and again assumed the leadership of the Slovak Embassy. We warmly welcome him back to our country.”

“We also support the policy of the Slovak government, which, despite pressure from external forces and its membership in the EU and NATO, consistently defends its country's national interests. In our time, this is a rare quality, when leaders have a clear vision of what is necessary for the welfare of the people and the security of the state,” Yevgeny Shestakov said. “We sincerely hope for a full restoration of our cooperation in the very near future and for further practical steps in this direction.”
Yevgeny Shestakov emphasized that a series of joint events, including high-level and top-level contacts, are planned for 2025-2026.
He noted the contact between the two countries' leaders during the commemorative events in Beijing.
“Representatives of business and the humanitarian sector are already actively engaging. We can once again see how much we can do for each other and how many common themes unite us. This is a good and very correct example for the entire European Union of how relations should be built in the modern world. I would like to separately highlight the main reason for today's event. In Belarus, we value the deep reverence with which Bratislava treats the memory of the feat of the Soviet people, who liberated Central Europe from the Nazis in 1944-1945. This struggle was waged shoulder to shoulder with the brave Slovak partisans,” the deputy minister said.
“With gratitude, we recall the participation of a Belarusian delegation, invited by Prime Minister Robert Fico, in last year's celebrations in Banská Bystrica marking the 80th anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising. We are pleased that the leaders of our countries attended the main events in both Moscow and Beijing in the year of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory,” Yevgeny Shestakov said.
