Belarus' FM: EU wants to make Belarus a pariah state

MINSK, 31 May (BelTA) – The European Union wants to make Belarus a pariah state, turn its government into outcasts, and proceed to the tactics of strangling the country, Belarus Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said in an interview to the Russian newspaper Kommersant, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Makei spoke about the reaction of the leaders of European countries to the Ryanair plane landing in Minsk, who called it an act of terrorism. “I am afraid that these actions are aimed at turning Belarus into a pariah state and its government into outcasts, giving themselves a free hand to get down to full-blown strangling of the country's economy,” he believes.

It has recently become trendy to attach stigmas, Vladimir Makei noted. “Russia is a good example: its authorities are constantly accused of committing some anti-humane crimes. For example, Poland calls Russia ‘not a normal country', while taking measures that defy limits and human logic. Let this be on their consciousness,” he said.

According to Vladimir Makei, Western countries start screaming blue murder over ordinary things which is always politically motivated. “Cooperation between, for example, the EU and Belarus or the EU and Russia in any areas is politicized. This is unacceptable for us,” he stressed.
