Belarus condemns FSC chairmanship’s biased approach to participation of international organizations

MINSK, 2 April (BelTA) - The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Belarus to the OSCE addressed a meeting of the OSCE Forum for Security Cooperation (FSC) in Vienna on 2 April, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In its statement, the Belarusian delegation expressed deep regret over the refusal of the Spanish chairmanship to allow representatives of the CSTO secretariat to monitor the forum meetings. It was noted that such permission was granted to a representative of NATO, an organization with non-universal membership, of which Spain is a member.

Belarus regarded such a decision as biased and emphasized the unacceptability of the practice of ignoring authoritative international structures east of Vienna. The delegation recalled that in the second quarter of 2022, during the Belarusian Chairmanship, the secretariats of the UN, NATO and the CSTO were granted equal right to observe the meetings of the forum.
Belarus regretted the lack of impartiality on the part of the Spanish Chairmanship and expressed hope for a more fair, strong-willed and independent chairperson of the forum in the future.
