MINSK, 17 April (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov took part in a meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council in Moscow on 17 April, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.
During the meeting, the heads of foreign ministries exchanged views on pressing issues of the international agenda. During his address, Maxim Ryzhenkov noted that amid global upheavals, the CIS countries are maintaining a trend towards development.
The Belarusian foreign minister emphasized the need to resolve the crisis in Ukraine and the military confrontation in the Middle East, which pose additional challenges for the CIS states, particularly for the countries of Central Asia and the South Caucasus. Maxim Ryzhenkov also called on the CIS member states to maintain diplomatic unity.
“The minister focused on the need to further strengthen humanitarian and cultural cooperation across the CIS, as well as to develop tourism. Maxim Ryzhenkov put forward a number of proposals to expand interaction between the CIS and international organizations,” the ministry’s press service noted.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the Belarusian diplomat held talks with his counterparts, discussing with them the organization of bilateral visits at the highest and high levels, as well as the holding of inter-ministerial consultations.
Following the meeting, documents were signed aimed at deepening cooperation across the CIS in foreign policy, cultural, humanitarian affairs and education, as well as joint statements by the CIS foreign ministers on the situation in the Persian Gulf area and on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the first human space flight.
The parties agreed to hold the next CIS Foreign Ministers Council meeting in Turkmenistan in October 2026.
