MINSK, 17 April (BelTA) – On the sidelines of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), which is currently taking place in Istanbul, Türkiye, Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Sergei Aleinik held a series of bilateral meetings with heads of parliaments of Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries, BelTA has learned.
During a meeting with the speaker of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, the parties discussed issues related to the Belarus-Uzbekistan Parliamentary Forum and the Women’s Business Forum, both scheduled to take place in 2026.
Upcoming events of the spring session of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (IPA) in St. Petersburg, as well as the implementation of joint initiatives and activities, were discussed with the leadership of the CIS IPA Council.
The state and prospects of Belarus-Turkmenistan relations were the focus of a meeting with the chairman of the Committee for International and Inter-Parliamentary Relations of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan.
Members of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus use the platform of high-profile international events such as the IPU Assembly to strengthen contacts with parliaments from non-CIS countries.
Sergei Aleinik discussed bilateral cooperation, inter-parliamentary dialogue, and the current situation in the Middle East, which affects various regions of the world, with the leaders of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, the Turkish parliamentary delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the speakers of the Senate of Zimbabwe and the National Assembly of Pakistan, the chairpersons of the People’s National Assembly of Algeria, the External Affairs Committee of the Shura Council of Qatar, and the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives of Egypt. These and other meetings resulted in agreements on new visits, joint projects, and the implementation of previously reached accords.
