Trade seen as major theme for Belarus-Cuba talks

MINSK, 10 June (BelTA) - Building up trade is the main topic of the Belarusian-Cuban negotiations, Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Evgeny Shestakov said at the plenary session of the Belarusian-Cuban joint commission on trade and economic cooperation in Minsk on 10 June, BelTA has learned.

“Taking into account the plans to sign the protocol to the intergovernmental agreement on mutual supplies, the parties need to discuss the possibilities to increase trade within the framework of this agreement and the new limits of up to $15 million for each country within five years,” Evgeny Shestakov said.

“This is a very ambitious task, especially if we take into account that for 10 years of the agreement implementation mutual supplies amounted to only $19 million. I am deeply convinced that the amount of $15 million just mentioned for each party for five years is not the final one. If in the course of our interaction we exceed it, then no one will prevent us from continuing to work within the framework of this agreement, specifying our mutual volumes,” he added.
