Plans for 2025 planting season in Belarus revealed

MINSK, 5 March (BelTA) – In a press conference on 5 March, Nikolai Leshik, head of the main crop production department of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry, provided a look ahead on how crop areas would look like in Belarus in 2025, BelTA has learned.

Winter sowing is projected to make up about 1.9 million hectares. This includes grain crops on the total area of 1.5 million hectares, and winter rapeseed on more than 400,000 hectares. Plants on these areas need to be fertilized to ensure intensive growth and contribute to the future harvest.

“In spring farmers are set to plant more than 600,000 hectares of early spring crops, 330,000 hectares of grain maize and about 900,000 hectares of fodder crops. More than 100,000 hectares will be allocated to plant sugar beet. Almost 50,000 hectares is used on an annual basis to grow flax,” the representative of the Agriculture and Food Ministry said.

Some farms in Brest Oblast have already launched the planting of annual crops, and early spring crops, primarily oats. Farms across the entire country have already started sowing perennial grasses.

Seed preparation is well underway ahead of the upcoming planting season. “Grain crop seeds are available in full volume. We have two large which have produced 27,000 tonnes of seeds this year. This is about 71% of the country's demand. The country has also imported more than 7,000 tonnes of seeds. Flax seeds are in abundance. These are almost 100% seeds of Belarusian selection. We also have enough potato seeds,” Nikolai Leshik said.
