Mozyr Oil Refinery getting ready to commission hydrocracking plant

GOMEL, 20 April (BelTA) – Mozyr Oil Refinery is getting ready to commission its hydrocracking plant, the company's representatives told BelTA.

The installation of fresh-feed pumps of the hydrocracking plant has been finished. The pumps represent a critical link in the hydrocracking technology process. The fresh-feed pumps are some of the unique pieces of equipment at the hydrocracking plant. The constant feed of liquid crude materials directly affects the safe operation of the hydrocracking plant. This is why instead of an electric motor one of the three pumps is driven by a steam turbine. The pump will be able to keep pumping even during a power outage.

Two other pumps are driven by electric motors with the power of 2,250kW each. They are equipped with lube oil consoles and control panels. Another lubricating system will cater to the turbine unit.

The equipment was installed under the supervision of a Dutch company, which had made the pumps, and a turbine equipment installation company. The installation supervisors praised professionalism and high technical skills of Mozyr Oil Refinery workers and their ability to deal with emerging problems fast. The installation supervisors left recommendations on preparing the equipment for startup.

BelTA reported earlier that the black oil hydrocracking complex of Mozyr Oil Refinery comprises an integrated hydrocracking unit, a hydrogen plant, a sulfur plant, and 21 off-plant facilities. The implementation of the investment project will allow noticeably increasing the output of light oil products, which are more expensive and sell well on the market, and increasing the crude oil upgrading index up to 90%. The project is expected to cost over $1.2 billion.

Mozyr Oil Refinery was commissioned in 1975. It was converted into a public joint-stock company (OAO) in 1994. The company specializes in refining oil and making and selling oil products.
