MINSK, 7 June (BelTA) - Belarus and Mordovia intend to make maximum use of trade and economic potential, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Leonid Zayats said during a meeting with a delegation of the Republic of Mordovia of Russia in Minsk on 7 June, BelTA has learned.
Speaking about bilateral cooperation between Belarus and Mordovia, Leonid Zayats said that the potential has not yet been fully exhausted and urged to increase trade.
"We can make significant progress in all areas. We are interested in this region. We seek to build friendly trade and economic relations with Mordovia, as well as with other regions of the Russian Federation. We need to find points of growth to be more useful to each other. This applies to industry, agriculture and utilities, and construction," the deputy prime minister said.
For his part, Chairman of the Government of the Republic of Mordovia Vladimir Sidorov stressed that Belarus is one of the most important and close partners for the Russian region. "Last year's trade was $40 million. In the first quarter of this year it surged by 27%. This makes us very happy as it shows there was still an untapped potential. The sanctions encouraged us to unlock it. This is only the beginning of the work that we need to do," Vladimir Sidorov emphasized.
