Belarus' external state debt 1.1% down to $18.4bn in January-July

MINSK, 31 August (BelTA) – As of 1 August 2021 Belarus' external state debt totaled $18.4 billion, $0.2 billion or 1.1% down since the beginning of the year (taking into account differences in currency exchange rates), BelTA learned from the Belarusian Finance Ministry.

In January-July 2021 the Belarusian government borrowed the equivalent of $936.3 million, including $764.4 million from the Russian government and Russian banks, $134.1 million from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), $20 million from the OPEC International Development Fund, $14.9 million from the Export-Import Bank of China, and $2.9 million from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Nordic Investment Bank (NIB).

In January-July 2021 Belarus spent $1,155.6 million to repay the external state debt, including $450.2 million to the Russian government and Russian banks, $403.1 million to Chinese banks, $238.5 million to the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development (EFSD), $59.9 million to the IBRD, $3.2 million to the EBRD and the NIB, and $0.7 million to the U.S. Commodity Credit Corporation.

As of 1 August 2021 Belarus' state debt totaled Br57.4 billion, Br0.4 billion or 0.6% down since the beginning of the year.

The internal state debt amounted to Br11.5 billion as of 1 August. Taking into account differences in currency exchange rates, the internal state debt went up by Br1.6 billion or 16.4% since the beginning of the year.

In January-July 2021 the Belarusian government sold $799.1 million and Br137 million worth of domestic government bonds nominated in foreign currencies and the Belarusian ruble to individuals and corporations and redeemed $26.1 million and Br92.2 million worth of government bonds nominated in foreign and national currencies from corporations and individuals.
