Belarus' ambassador meets with head of Russia's Republic of Karelia

MOSCOW, 24 January (BelTA) – Belarus' Ambassador to Russia Aleksandr Rogozhnik held talks with Head of the Republic of Karelia Artur Parfenchikov in Moscow on 24 January, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian ambassador noted that the cooperation agenda covers all sectors of the manufacturing industry. “The Republic of Karelia and our country have a long history of cooperation. It is noteworthy that our trade already exceeded $100 million in the first 11 months of last year, which is quite a lot. Your region is developing rapidly, you are running projects in the field of logging equipment, we supply dump trucks, food products, and we are in talks on supplies of passenger vehicles and animal feed,” he said.

Aleksandr Rogozhnik thanked the head of Karelia for supporting joint projects. “A number of national projects are to be implemented in Russia by 2030. These projects were named by the Russian president. Some of them will be implemented in Karelia. So I would like to discuss ways Belarusian enterprises can help Karelia run these projects.  We have the necessary competencies. Plus, the two presidents announced plans to bolster technological security of the two countries; so our expertise can come in handy here, too,” he noted.

“We also have good competencies in the construction of social facilities - schools, kindergartens, stadiums, social housing. We are implementing such projects in Kaluga Oblast, Voronezh Oblast, Bryansk Oblast, and we have agreed to run them in Smolensk Oblast. We have amassed enough experience; we even built dairy complexes on Sakhalin at the request of the governor. We have good competencies in the production of municipal vehicles, from tractors to airport vehicles,” the ambassador emphasized.

“I wanted to discuss with you the possibility of launching flights between Karelia and Minsk. I know that the issue has already been raised before,” added Aleksandr Rogozhnik.
