Tokyo 2020: Belarus' judoka Maryna Slutskaya knocked out of Olympics

TOKYO, 30 July (BelTA) – Belarusian judoka Maryna Slutskaya has been defeated by Mijin Han of the Republic of Korea in the second bout of the Women's +78 kg Elimination Round of 16 on 30 July, BelTA has learned.

The two judokas were equally favored to win, but the Korean athlete prevailed due to using Kesa-gatame mat hold. Thus, all medal hopes of the Belarusian judo team were dashed.

A reminder, Belarusian judoka Dzmitry Minkou (66kg) beat Ayoub El-Idrissi of Qatar in the opening event, but lost to Mongolia's Baskhuu Yondonperenlei (ippon) in the second round. His teammate Mikita Sviryd lost in the Men -100 kg Elimination Round of 32 to Karl-Richard Frey of Germany (ippon). After the tournament, Mikita Sviryd needed emergency medical care: the athlete injured his elbow joint.
