CIS Librarians Conference to take place in Samarkand on 15 May

MINSK, 14 May (BelTA) – The CIS Librarians Conference will take place in Samarkand on 15 May as part of the interstate program “Samarkand - the CIS Capital of Culture 2024” with the participation of the CIS Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation and the Eurasia Library Assembly, BelTA learned from the CIS Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation.

About 30 directors and leading specialists of the CIS national libraries, Moscow and St. Petersburg State Institutes of Culture, state children's and youth libraries, border libraries of Central Asia will come together to discuss topical issues of modern development of libraries, issues of presentation of printed and manuscript heritage in the digital environment, reading promotion programs, modern information and communication technologies in libraries.

The conference will feature a plenary session, the seminar “Information Culture of the Digital Generation: New Directions of the Project “Formation of Media and Information Literacy of Children and Youth in the Libraries of Uzbekistan”, a special introductory meeting of directors of border libraries of Central Asia as part of the Eurasia Library Assembly “Cross-border Cooperation of Libraries: New Prospects for International Cooperation”, and a ceremony to sign agreements on cooperation between libraries of Central Asia and Uzbekistan.

The delegates are also expected to visit libraries of Samarkand Region and take part in the 17th International Conference “Central Asia: Internet and Information-Library Resources in Science, Education, Culture and Business”, which will be held in Jizzakh on 17 May.
