MINSK, 10 September (BelTA) – Belarus' Aliaksandra Sasnovich dismissed Slovakia's world number 182 Anna Schmiedlova 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-3 to reach the 2020 Istanbul Open quarterfinal, BelTA has learned.
The match lasted for almost three hours. In the opener the Belarusian saw off Kazakhstan's Zarina Diyas, ranked 69th in the world, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1.
Aliaksandra Sasnovich will next face either France's world number 50 Caroline Garcia or world number 136 Tereza Martincova of the Czech Republic.
Belarus' Lidziya Marozava and Romania's Cristina-Andreea Mitu lost 6-4, 1-6, 8-10 to the U.S.-Chile tandem of Desirae Krawczyk and Alexa Guarachi in the round of Last 16.
At the Czech Open in Prostejov Belarus' world number 139 Ilya Ivashka lost 2-6, 3-6 to Czech's world number 67 Jiri Vesely in the round of Last 32. In the doubles quarterfinal the Belarusian-Israeli duo of Andrei Vasilevsky and Jonathan Erlich lost in two straight sets, 4-6, 4-6, to the Czech tandem of Zdenek Kolar and Lukas Rosol.
The tournaments in Istanbul and Prostejov will finish on 13 September.
