
MINSK, 15 April (BelTA) – Belarus’ world number one Aryna Sabalenka will take on Anastasia Potapova of Russia in the Stuttgart Open second round, BelTA has learned.
In the round of Last 32 the Russian player saw off Clara Tauson of Denmark, 2-6, 7-6 (10-7), 6-3. Sabalenka and Potapova faced each other only once before. In the Stuttgart semifinal in 2023 the Belarusian secured a confident win, 6-2, 6-1.
The winner of the tomorrow’s match will play either Russia’s Diana Shnaider or Elise Mertens of Belgium, who beat Belarus’ Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the opener.
Aliaksandra Sasnovich reached the main draw through the qualifying round, defeating Louisa Chirico of the United States and Russia’s Erika Andreeva.
The previous edition of the Stuttgart Open was won by Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina. The player is not taking part in this year’s event. The winner of the ongoing tournament will earn €142,600, 500 points and an all-electric Porsche.
