MINSK, 9 August (BelTA) - A festive divine service marking the 800th anniversary of St. Elisha of Lavrishevo Monastery will be held on 5 November, Father Yevgeny Bartoshevich, secretary to the monastery's father superior, told a press conference, a BelTA learned.
According to Yevgeny Bartoshevich, the central event of the 800th anniversary celebrations will be the divine service on 5 November. "The festive service will be led by Metropolitan Veniamin of Minsk and Zaslavl, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, and concelebrated by the entire episcopate of the Belarusian Orthodox Church. There has never been such a large-scale event in modern times: the entire episcopate serving in our monastery," he said.
Yevgeny Bartoshevich also shared that the monastery will celebrate the Day of Revival of the Lavrishevo Monastery in the coming days, a date marking another significant milestone. "It was on 12 August 2001, that His Eminence Gury brought the first monk to serve at what was then still the parish church of St. Elisha of Lavrishevo," he said. "Two processions of the cross will depart from two starting points in Novogrudok and the town of Korelichion 10 August after the Divine Liturgy, making their way toward the Lavrishevo Monastery," Yevgeny Bartoshevich said.
"Following tradition, the monastery will welcome guests, provide them with food and rest areas, followed by an evening service. On 12 August a festive Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at the monastery, which, God willing, will be led by Archbishop Gury of Novogrudok and Slonim," Yevgeny Bartoshevich announced.
One of the chapels, the Zhirovichi Chapel, will be consecrated on 5 November," Yevgeny Bartoshevich said. "The consecration will be performed by His Eminence Metropolitan veniamin of Minsk and Zaslavl himself during the procession of the cross, which is to take place following the Divine Liturgy. The essence of this alley is that chapels are being constructed around the perimeter of our monastery grounds. A total of 33 chapels are planned, one for each year of Christ the Savior's earthly ministry, when He preached His Gospel teachings here on earth,” Bartoshevich explained.
According to Yevgeny Bartoshevich, several films and features about the monastery have been produced to mark this significant anniversary. Furthermore, during this jubilee year, efforts to educate youth and the general public about the monastery's history have been intensified.
