MINSK, 19 February (BelTA) - As part of Belarusian-Ukrainian relations, a group of Russian servicemen was voluntarily brought to Belarus by the Ukrainian side. After receiving all necessary medical care in Belarus, the soldiers headed home to their families on 18 February, BelTA learned from the First News Channel.
On 18 February, servicemen who, just a few weeks ago, were undergoing treatment in a hospital in Gomel Oblast after being released in a swap with Ukraine, departed from Belarus to Russia. They are on the road to recovery, and now their families are waiting for them at home. The soldiers leave with words of gratitude to the Belarusian doctors and personally to the head of state.
“Words simply cannot express it. Great thanks to him for everything he does for his country,” says one of the servicemen.

Another soldier notes: “I would shake his hand, hug him, and tell him a huge thank you. A huge, huge thank you for the humane reception, for the humane approach.”

Considering their state of health, following a direct instruction from the president of Belarus, the soldiers were immediately placed in a medical facility in Gomel Oblast. For two weeks, all conditions were created there for their treatment and recovery, necessary for a safe return home, from initial examination to rehabilitation procedures. Doctors confirm that the patients’ health condition allows them to go home.
“I immediately called my mom, called my dad. They cried, and I was overjoyed. They are happy, delighted. They say a huge thank you to Aleksandr Grigoryevich [Lukashenko] for the support, for the assistance provided by Belarus,” says one of the servicemen.
Another soldier shares: “They welcomed us with open arms. They immediately began conducting examinations, ran every test possible; the doctors studied all of us very thoroughly and provided treatment.”
All this time, the servicemen were under constant observation by specialists and kept in touch with their relatives. One of the soldiers, who needed more complex treatment, underwent surgery today, after which he was sent on a special aircraft to continue treatment in the Russian Federation.
“At first I even thought, maybe this is a dream, maybe I’m dreaming all this. It turned out to be completely different. We arrived in Belarus, they exchanged us. They started treating us well, taking care of us, and provided first aid. They did surgery on my arm; there was a fragment in my elbow, they removed it. The doctor came in about every 10 minutes,” he shared.
The servicemen headed home with immense gratitude and a sincere desire to return to Belarus again with their families.
It is emphasized that Belarus is consistently carrying out a humanitarian mission based on the principles of good neighborliness and saving lives. The topic of returning people to their homeland invariably remains a focus of the head of state. Earlier, as part of bilateral agreements, Belarus transferred 31 citizens to Ukraine. This humanitarian act was another stage of a long-term effort that has repeatedly led to the release of people, both in favor of Ukraine and in favor of Russia.
“Our President consistently advocates for stabilizing the situation in the region, establishing dialogue between all states, and resolving all contentious issues strictly through peaceful means,” the TV channel broadcast the statement from Natalya Eismont, the Press Secretary of the Belarusian president, dated 22 November 2025.
