Putin speaks about benefits from Western sanctions

MINSK, 6 December (BelTA) - At the meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State of Belarus and Russia in Minsk on 6 December Russian President Vladimir Putin in Minsk hinted at the ultimate benefit from Western sanctions, which is associated with freeing up the market for domestic producers and Union State goods, BelTA has learned.

“The scale of bilateral industrial cooperation is on the rise, with a focus on import substitution and increasing the share of high value-added products. This is very important in modern conditions, and even more important for the future,” the Russian leader emphasized. “Some colleagues from the Russian government say to me that they wish nothing changed here [probably the matter concerns Western sanctions and the withdrawal of a number of foreign companies from the Russian market].”

“Of course, there are problems related to certain restrictions. However, the liberation of the Russian domestic market for our producers in industrial production (just as it was once the case with agricultural production) ultimately plays more of a positive role than creates problems,” Vladimir Putin added.
