MINSK, 18 November (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko called meetings like the climate summit in Baku a gab fest. Journalists from the First News Channel visited a market in Baku to find out what local residents think about Aleksandr Lukashenko’s words, BelTA reports.
The president's characterization of the climate summit as a gab fest immediately went viral. People kept recalling it on the sidelines of the forum, because it really was perceived as a climate bazaar.
“Lukashenko is affectionately called Batka - he takes care of people like a father and pursues an independent policy. Politics is such a thing, sometimes you need to be tough. If you are not tough enough, the country can go in the wrong direction,” a Baku resident believes.
“Batka is right! First we need to stop the war, then take care of the climate,” another resident of Azerbaijan said commenting on Aleksandr Lukashenko’s words.
A tour guide who lives in the old city in Baku Akhmed Atakshiyev noted: “Wars are a great tragedy for future generations. Azerbaijan went through the first and second wars, the Karabakh war. Ordinary people always want peace.”
