MINSK, 20 August (BelTA) – Europe intends to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia and obtain reparations, Andrei Bogodel, Deputy Head of the Faculty of Education and Science – Head of the Education and Methodology Department of the Faculty of the General Staff of the Armed Forces at the Military Academy of Belarus, said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
According to the expert, the strategic goals that the United States seeks to achieve differ from those pursued by the European Union. “The United States’ strategy is to end this war [the armed conflict in Ukraine] and focus on global issues. Trump understands that he needs to build a new economic system, a new currency system. Moreover, India and China are hot on their heels. Why would he need a peripheral region like Europe?” Andrei Bogodel asked.
Nevertheless, the expert noted, Europe is trying to keep the American presence in the region and Donald Trump’s interest in it: “Europe is asking him to deal with its minor issues. So, the European Union’s strategy is to keep the United States in Europe.”
Furthermore, Andrei Bogodel believes, the European Union is counting on keeping Ukraine within its sphere of influence and preventing Russia from entering Europe. “But the best scenario for them would be to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia, to force Russia to pay reparations. After all, Europe wants to make up for the trillions of dollars it gave to America,” he concluded.
