Marathon of Unity participants honor memory of children victims of Great Patriotic War

ZHLOBIN DISTRICT, 25 October (BelTA) - Participants of the Marathon of Unity, which kicked off in Zhlobin on 25 October, visited the Monument to Children Victims of the Great Patriotic War in Krasny Bereg, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Kiyenya, head of the Krasny Bereg branch, spoke about the importance of the Marathon of Unity and the development of the memorial complex: “Hosting the Marathon of Unity is a very important event for us. Today we are welcoming numerous guests to pay tribute to the children who died during the war.”

According to Aleksandr Kiyenya, Krasny Bereg is a landmark place, important for the preservation of historical memory. “During the war years, the place was used as a point to bring children from Gomel Oblast, Mogilev Oblast and even from nearby villages in Russia. German doctors examined the children, determined their blood type and Rh factor. Those who met the medical requirements were sent to Germany to be blood donors for the Reich soldiers,” he said.

Krasny Bereg is a very emotional place, said bloggers Maksim Bondarchuk and Anastasia Borovik, the participants of the Marathon of Unity.

She added that she visits the museums with Maksim to remember the lessons of history. "We must remember what happened in our country and in the world and prevent such events from happening again. We are very glad that we have the opportunity to visit such places and cities of the Republic of Belarus, to learn more about the Great Patriotic War," she said.

Popularizing cultural heritage and history among young people is the main task for modern bloggers, Maksim Bondarchuk believes. "Media people are responsible for spreading the information. We must popularize good things, talk about important things, especially about places like Krasny Bereg. Our goal is to show our audiences that there are many interesting important places in Belarus where you can learn something new," he said.

The Marathon of Unity will span 13 cities: Brest, Baranovichi, Pinsk, Lida, Grodno, Soligorsk, Gomel, Zhlobin, Molodechno, Bobruisk, Mogilev, Vitebsk and Orsha. A large-scale program is being prepared for each of them to highlight their sights and potential while uniting under the common thread.
