ORSHA, 8 December (BelTA) - Orsha is a crossroads of the Belarusians’ destinies, Head of the Belarus President Administration Dmitry Krutoi said at the Time Chosen Us concert, which was held as part of the Marathon of Unity campaign in Orsha on 7 December, BelTA has learned.
The geographical location of Orsha played an important role in the history of the city, Dmitry Krutoi said. “There is hardly a Belarusian who would not have been passing through Orsha at least once. It is symbolic that the city is hosting Marathon of Unity in the middle of this nationwide campaign. In fact, the city is a crossroads of the Belarusians' destinies. The city is noisy, lively and very dynamic. Orsha is a city where patriots and hardworking people, representing the diversity of our great country, live,” he emphasized.
The head of the Belarus President Administration also recalled the difficult times in the city's history, mentioning that Orsha had to face many changes. “These lands were seized and divided by many, including Napoleon and Hitler. There were civil wars here as well,” he said.
Dmitry Krutoi also recalled the difficult 1990s, when Orsha became associated with banditry and corruption. “The young president took the region and the city under his special control from the very first days of his presidency. Next year it will be exactly 30 years since he first came here on an official visit. Our leader visited Orsha Linen Mill 5 times alone. We are also preparing a big meeting on the development of the flax industry here next year,” he added.
According to the head of the Belarus President Administration, Orsha again attracted the attention of the whole country in 2018. “An experiment to revitalize the district was launched here. There were changes again here, but this time those were good and landmark changes. The decree on an unprecedented package of tax, financial and labor incentives and benefits for the development of the district covered virtually every enterprise. Top officials, ministers, and members of the government were assigned to each one. A total of 400 measures were developed in 18 areas - from industry and agriculture to logistics and tourism. The budget of the program was Br2.8 billion. No other district in the country has ever received such funding,” Dmitry Krutoi said.
