MINSK, 26 February (BelTA) – Former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny has set his sights on the presidency and is now Vladimir Zelensky’s main rival, national security expert Aleksandr Tishchenko said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“Zaluzhny clearly positions himself as Zelensky’s political successor and has his sights set on the presidency. In fact, he is already Zelensky’s main rival, and their relationship is now reaching a point where they are becoming enemies,” Aleksandr Tishchenko said.
The expert also noted that Zaluzhny, currently serving as Ukraine’s ambassador to the UK, gave an interview to the Time magazine. Aleksandr Tishchenko sees this as a logical move, given that the center of decision-making on Ukraine has shifted from London to Washington. “The Americans will pressure Zelensky anyway. There are already signals that they want this conflict to be over by 4 July [the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence],” he emphasized.
Furthermore, the expert recalled, Washington has repeatedly called for presidential elections in Ukraine, while London takes a different view. According to Aleksandr Tishchenko, this is quite understandable given that the United Kingdom is not inclined to end the Ukrainian conflict. This further intensifies the contradictions between Washington and London.
